Overview
Baca/Dlo' ay azhi Community School guides kindergarten through 6th grade students through our elementary school program, preparing them for middle school, high school, and beyond. We provide Navajo children with an early childhood and elementary education that develops young scholars into lifelong learners, and future leaders.
VISION
Our vision is to create a family school. Baca/Dlo’ ay azhi Community School recognizes that the global communities of the 21st Century must care for, respect, and share the resources of Mother Earth. Our educational program and school community ensure that each student experiences early academic success and develops a quality life plan.
PHILOSOPHY
At Baca/Dlo' ay azhi Community School, we foster academic achievement by empowering students with the tools they need to reach their full potential. Grounded in our teaching and learning philosophies, we aim to develop analytical thinkers, problem solvers, and collaborators who embody valuable life skills and become quality citizens. Our approach is built on four foundational principles:
- Nitsáhákees (Thinking)
- Nahat'á (Planning)
- Iiná (Life)
- Doo Sihasin (Evaluation)
Students at every grade level receive personalized attention and academic support services to help them meet or exceed New Mexico State Standards in reading, writing, language arts, mathematics, and science. Faculty, staff, parents/guardians, and community members provide additional support services in Navajo Language and Culture, computer technology, career readiness, and tutoring.
WELLNESS
Baca/Dlo' ay azhi Community School practices the traditional concept of Hozho to serve every student's physical, mental, and spiritual needs. Our learning environment promotes healthy eating, daily exercise, and mental health awareness to protect the student’s overall well-being. We provide students with daily nutritious meal plans, structured physical activities, and social-emotional teaching and counseling.
Strategic Transformation of Education Plan (STEP)
During the 2023-24 school year, Baca/Dlo'Ay Azhi Community School implemented Director Tony Dearman's eLMS initiative. We piloted his digital learning portal with a blended learning approach. Our students can maximize this opportunity by accessing the digital learning portal with a 1:1 student-laptop usage ratio. This approach gives our students the advantage of integrated applications for our tailored instruction. Every one of our students benefits from the robust learning strategy and the comprehensive application of these innovative tools and resources. Baca/Dlo'Ay Azhi Community School’s team of dedicated educators are committed to the growth and development of your children - tomorrow’s leaders.
